Band of Scribes

Screen shot 2013-05-31 at 9.21.45 AMAs mentioned in an earlier post, some expat Okies in LA, as well as other kindly folks, will be on hand tomorrow, Saturday, June 1, at the Great American PitchFest. We’ll be collecting items to ship to those impacted by the tornadoes that swept through the Prairie state, leaving mountains of destruction behind them.

I’m a little teary-eyed as I write this; time and again, I find myself touched by the kindness of strangers. I wonder at the six degrees of separation that connect us all, and I am proud to be a member of the Band of Scribes.

If you wish to join us for an hour or so, feel free to leave me a comment. I’ll be in touch! Be sure and take advantage of GAPF’s free classes and events. And, if you are pitching, please say hello to me on Sunday – I’ll be behind the table with Zac Sanford, the Dudeness of ScriptChat.

Please join me in giving many, many thanks to Signe, Bob, Erman, Jeanne, Zac, Lynn D., #ScriptChat and countless others. Your generosity touches me again and again. Happy 10th Anniversary to the Great American PitchFest – and here’s to many, many more. Special thanks to GAPF and the Burbank Marriott Hotel and Convention Center, for allowing us to crowd their space, and do what we can to try to help those in need. There has been so much suffering in recent years, and yet, within such pain and devastation, the human spirit shines brighter than ever.

ITEMS WE ARE COLLECTING:

This list comes from items that are currently being requested for donation by various Oklahoma health agencies:

Blankets and pillows, clothing, shoes, socks and underwear, hygiene products, diapers, diaper rash cream, wipes, toiletries, medical supplies, pet supplies, laundry detergent and disposable eating utensils.

Small toys for children and pets. Things that are soft, bright and huggable. Sunscreen for survivors that are digging through rubble. Handwritten notes or cards (sealed) that offer messages of condolence and cheer. Paperback books suitable for all ages. Gift cards to merchandise centers, pet stores, etc.

If you’re reticent to drop something off, you can always make a donation to Goodwill or the Red Cross. It won’t go directly to Oklahoma – but people are people wherever they are, and someone, somewhere is always in need.
