Perspective

My father used to tell me “Life is ten percent event and ninety percent perspective of said event.”

Yesterday, never did words ring so true.

I’ve been developing a project for a few months. It’s a solo force for now, though I’ll probably turn elsewhere for ideas. It’s about a subject that I am passionate about… and several weeks ago, I was given a prelim greenlight for it in regard to financing.

I was exhilarated. Space exploration was mine! I dipped my toe into the waters of this story again. Oh, these waters were inviting. And so, I took the plunge…

…only to find out that the financing had strings attached. Very nasty ones.

I spent most of yesterday cleaning, organizing and crying. I do that, now and then. I capped the whole day off with an impromptu view of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” Yes, in spite of my grousing – which I hold steadfast to – about Christmas-before-Thanksgiving (sucks), I realized that I needed the eggs.

I went to bed, iPhone in hand, as post-production for ITF rules all – and eventually fell asleep in the wee hours of the morning…

…and this morning, I wondered wtf was I so upset about? Okay, so, I let a bad apple color the taste in my mouth.

Well, life is all about the bad apples. I think they are there so you can cherish the good ones even more.

Sometimes, the apples might not even be bad. It’s simply that you are needing a different flavor for your sauce.

There are a lot of good apples in my life. I know Gala, Red Delicious and a nice tart Granny Smith or three. Fiji. And a couple of crabapples. I like to make jelly with them.

Life is a lot simpler if you have perspective. Note. To. Self.

An end note – a friend posted this. It was a wake up call:

“I have come to the frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element. It is my personal approach that creates the climate. It is my daily mood that makes the weather. I possess tremendous power to make life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration, I can humiliate or humor, hurt or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis is escalated or de-escalated, and a person is humanized or de-humanized. If we treat people as they are, we make them worse. If we treat people as they ought to be, we help them become what they are capable of becoming.”

― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Perspective, indeed. Time to breathe.

Now, go write.
